The primary mission of the North American Self-Defense Association is to provide and promote practical self-defense training thoughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. This is accomplished via on-going classes and clinics we offer thoughout the year in various locations, many of which are free of charge for our membership.

We also provide Black Belt Instructor Certification in Umibushi Goshin Jutsu and Shudo-Kai Karate Jutsu. Plus we serve as advocates for all the children, veterans and seniors living in the communities we serve.

Jim Curtis is the founder and executive director of the North American Self-Defense Association. He is also the founder and headmaster of both Umibushi Goshin Jutsu and Shudo-Kai Karate Jutsu.

Mr. Curtis holds a BA Degree in Education from Central Washington University. Also he is a Marine Corps combat veteran having served as a machine gunner during the Vietnam War in 1969 and 1970. His citations include the Purlple Heart Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V.

This year Mr. Curtis will celebrate 50 years of training in and teaching various martial arts including boxing, wrestling, karate, jujitsu and marine hand to hand combat. He is ranked as a Ju-Dan (10th Degree Master) and uses the title Hanshi (Headmaster) while instructing martial arts classes and clinics. His on-going focus is on practical self-defense training and he requires his students to demonstrate compassion, courage and commitment at all times.
